CJC-1295 is a synthetic peptide designed to mimic growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), the endogenous signal that prompts the pituitary gland to release growth hormone. The compound is a modified fragment of the natural hormone, spanning the first twenty-nine amino acids of GHRH with several substitutions that slow enzymatic breakdown. Two variants circulate in research settings: one carrying a drug affinity complex (DAC) and one without it. The DAC-free form is frequently labelled Mod GRF(1-29) in catalogs and discussion forums.
The peptide binds GHRH receptors on somatotroph cells within the anterior pituitary, triggering a signalling cascade that increases growth hormone secretion. Its improved resistance to dipeptidyl peptidase IV degradation distinguishes it from the parent hormone. In the DAC-bearing version, a maleimide group reacts with a cysteine residue on serum albumin, forming a covalent bond that keeps the peptide in circulation far longer. That albumin attachment is the central design feature separating the two research variants.
Pharmacokinetic behaviour differs sharply between the two forms. The DAC-bearing peptide shows an extended circulation time measured in days, whereas the version without the complex is cleared within roughly half an hour. This gap shapes how researchers design dosing schedules in animal models. Whether the prolonged presence of the DAC form produces effects meaningfully different from the short-acting variant remains an open question, since comparative human data are scarce.
Lyophilized peptide powder is comparatively stable when kept dry, cold, and protected from light. Once dissolved, the molecule is vulnerable to deamidation, oxidation, and aggregation, with the rate depending on pH, buffer composition, and temperature. Alkaline conditions and repeated freeze-thaw cycles accelerate loss of the intact peptide. The methionine present in the native sequence is a known oxidation site, which is one reason it was replaced in the modified fragment. Suppliers typically recommend cold storage of solutions and use within a short window.
Analytical confirmation usually relies on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography for purity and on liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for identity. Mass data reveal the expected molecular mass and can flag truncated or oxidized species. Amino acid analysis and peptide mapping provide sequence-level verification. Immunoassays are used in some biological matrices, but antibodies raised against one releasing-hormone analog may cross-react with another. Reported purity figures depend heavily on the method used, so comparisons between suppliers require matching the analytical approach.
The two variants differ dramatically in how long they persist in circulation. The form lacking the albumin-binding group has a plasma half-life measured in tens of minutes, comparable to the natural hormone fragment. The version carrying the drug affinity complex binds albumin and shows a half-life of roughly six to eight days in human studies. That figure comes from small trials that tracked hormone levels over extended periods. The physiological consequences of sustained versus pulsatile stimulation are still debated and the literature does not settle the point.

Lyophilized material is typically stored at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower. Keeping the vial dry and protected from light preserves peptide integrity. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can cause aggregation or loss of activity. Once dissolved, solutions are generally kept at two to eight degrees Celsius. Stability data for reconstituted solutions vary, and long-term behavior is not fully established. Working aliquots reduce the number of times a stock container is opened.
Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography is the standard tool for purity assessment. The technique separates the target peptide from truncated or modified byproducts. Mass spectrometry confirms molecular weight and supports sequence verification. Electrospray ionization and matrix-assisted laser desorption are both used. Amino acid analysis provides an independent check on composition. Purity values are commonly reported as area percentage from the chromatogram. Residual trifluoroacetate and water content are also measured in many quality programs.
Batch-to-batch consistency depends on solid-phase peptide synthesis and subsequent purification. Coupling efficiency, resin choice, and cleavage conditions all affect the final profile. Counter-ion content and moisture can shift the apparent mass of a batch. Documentation typically includes a certificate of analysis with chromatograms and spectra. Independent verification by a second laboratory is sometimes requested. Whether a given certificate reflects the actual vial contents depends on chain of custody. Analytical methods themselves carry uncertainty that should be stated alongside results.
The compound emerged from work at a Canadian biotechnology firm in the early 2000s. Early human studies examined its effect on growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor 1 in healthy volunteers and in people with HIV-associated fat redistribution. Reports described sustained increases in both markers after a single injection. Development did not advance to regulatory approval, and the clinical programme was later discontinued. The molecule is now encountered mainly as a research chemical rather than a marketed medicine.
Two forms circulate in research settings and are frequently confused. One carries the drug affinity complex and is often written as CJC-1295 with DAC; the other lacks that group and is usually called modified GRF(1-29). The two share the same core sequence but differ sharply in how long they persist in blood. Products labelled only as CJC-1295 normally refer to the version carrying the complex. Documentation that omits the distinction leaves the intended molecule ambiguous.
CJC-1295 is a synthetic peptide built as a long-acting analogue of growth hormone-releasing hormone. Its backbone matches the first twenty-nine residues of the natural human hormone, with four amino acid substitutions added to slow enzymatic breakdown. A reactive maleimide group, commonly termed the drug affinity complex, allows the peptide to attach to circulating albumin after administration. That albumin attachment keeps the molecule in the bloodstream for an extended period instead of being cleared within minutes.
=== Echocardiography === Findings of an echocardiography may include generalised or focal left ventricular hypertrophy, with or without left atrial dilation. Some cats show right heart disease with right-sided heart failure. However, echocardiography often reveals nothing.
== Menu and advertising == The first Taco Bell commercials premiered in 1968, featuring advertisements with Mel Blanc, Pat Harrington, and the then-host of Truth or Consequences, Bob Barker. In 1992, Johnny Cash starred in a television commercial for Taco Bell's value menu. In 1993, Taco Bell was used as product placement and plot device in the movie Demolition Man updating their currently used logo. From August 1997 to July 2000, Gidget the Chihuahua was the brand's advertising mascot, a campaign developed by TBWA. Voiced by Carlos Alazraqui, slogans included “¡Yo quiero Taco Bell!” (I want Taco Bell!), “Drop the Chalupa,” and “¡Viva Gorditas!” All became catchphrases in popular culture. In 2000, Taco Bell: Tasty Temple Challenge was released for DOS by Taco Bell as the publisher and developed by BrandGames as a kid-friendly first-person 3D action shooter with gameplay similar to that of Doom and Wolfenstein 3D in terms of combat and exploration, serving as an advertisement for the brand. The player controls Baja Bill, who explores a temple of a lost jungle civilization, battling snakes and scorpions with Taco Bell's hot and wild sauce. Food from the brand also appears in game and is used to replenish the protagonist's health.
Endothelin 1 (ET-1), also known as preproendothelin-1 (PPET1), is the most potent vasoconstrictor produced by the human body. It is a peptide produced by vascular endothelial cells, as well as by cells in the heart (affecting contractility) and kidney (affecting sodium handling). The protein encoded by this gene – EDN1 – is proteolytically processed to release endothelin 1. Endothelin 1 is one of three isoforms of human endothelin.

N-Acetylputrescine (NacPut), also known as monoacetylputrescine, is an endogenous metabolite of putrescine and a precursor and metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) from putrescine. The metabolic pathway is specifically putrescine into N-acetylputrescine by putrescine acetyltransferase (PAT), N-acetylputrescine into N-acetyl-γ-aminobutyraldehyde (N-acetyl-GABAL or N-acetyl-GABA aldehyde) by monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B), N-acetyl-GABAL into N-acetyl-γ-aminobutyric acid (N-acetyl-GABA) by aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH), and N-acetyl-GABA into GABA by an unknown deacetylase enzyme. This pathway is a minor alternative pathway to the major and primary pathway in which GABA is synthesized from glutamate. There is also another alternative pathway in which putrescine is converted into GABA with γ-aminobutyraldehyde (GABAL or GABA aldehyde) as an intermediate instead. It has been estimated that about 2 to 3% of GABA is synthesized from putrescine in the mouse brain, whereas in the case of the rat brain, the amount was negligible. In 2021, it was discovered that MAO-B does not mediate dopamine catabolism in the rodent striatum but instead participates in striatal GABA synthesis and that synthesized GABA in turn inhibits dopaminergic neurons in this brain area. It has been found that MAO-B, via the putrescine pathway, importantly mediates GABA synthesis in astrocytes in various brain areas, including in the hippocampus, cerebellum, striatum, cerebral cortex, and substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc).
In microorganisms and plants, the enzyme serine acetyltransferase catalyzes the transfer of acetyl group from acetyl-CoA onto L-serine to yield O-acetyl-L-serine. The following reaction step, catalyzed by the enzyme O-acetyl serine (thiol) lyase, replaces the acetyl group of O-acetyl-L-serine with sulfide to yield cysteine.
=== Monitoring and detection === The goal of most monitoring and detection processes is the rapid detection of harmful microorganisms with minimal interruption to the processing of food products. An example of a detection mechanism that relies heavily on biological processes is usage of chromogenic microbiological media.

== Decoding of DNA-encoded chemical libraries == Following selection from DNA-encoded chemical libraries, the decoding strategy for the fast and efficient identification of the specific binding compounds is crucial for the further development of the DEL technology. So far, Sanger-sequencing-based decoding, microarray-based methodology and high-throughput sequencing techniques represented the main methodologies for the decoding of DNA-encoded library selections.
Microbats and a few megabats emit ultrasonic sounds to produce echoes. The sound intensity of these echoes is dependent on subglottic pressure. The bats' cricothyroid muscle, located inside the larynx, controls the orientation pulse frequency, which is an important function. By comparing the outgoing pulse with the returning echoes, bats can learn about their environment and detect prey in darkness. Some bat calls can reach over 140 decibels. Microbats use their larynx to emit echolocation signals through the mouth or the nose. Bat call frequencies range from as low as 11 kHz to as high as 212 kHz. The noses of various groups of bats have fleshy extensions, known as nose-leaves, which play a role in sound transmission. In low-duty cycle echolocation, bats can separate their calls and returning echoes by time. They have to time their short calls to finish before echoes return. In high-duty cycle echolocation, bats emit a continuous call and separate pulse and echo in frequency using the Doppler effect of their motion in flight. The shift of the returning echoes yields information relating to the motion and location of the bat's prey. These bats must deal with changes in the Doppler shift due to changes in their flight speed. They have adapted to change their pulse emission frequency in relation to their flight speed so echoes still return in the optimal hearing range. In addition to echolocating prey, bat ears are sensitive to sounds made by their prey, such as the fluttering of moth wings.

=== Saddiction and hiatus (2024–present) === At the beginning of February 2024, Hangman's Chair returned to perform at Le Mondial du Tatouage – Tattoo Planetarium, which brought together 500 tattoo artists from around the world, at Paris' Grande halle de la Villette. In October 2024, the band released the single "2 am Thoughts" and its music video, taken from the upcoming seventh album, Saddiction. "2 am Thoughts" features a guest appearance from Raven van Dorst of Dool. The music video follows Nackphouminh, the original singer of Hangman's Chair, through a day in his life, three years after he adopted a healthier lifestyle combining sport and spiritual exploration. He is the author of the video's closing line. The band went on a European tour with Dool in October 2024. They released the single "Kowloon Lights" in November. Saddiction was released on 14 February 2025 through Nuclear Blast Records, with the group's lineup remaining unchanged: Chanut, Thépegnier, Hanvic, and Toufouti. A Loner and Saddiction would be part of a new trilogy. The album entered at number 13 on the French SNEP–SCPP Rock and Metal Chart compiled by the OCC. Mathieu David of Rolling Stone France wrote that Hangman's Chair "continues to weave their simultaneously heavy and hovering ambiences amidst mysterious urban landscapes". He added that while A Loner "hovered at 10,000 feet in an ethereal cloud, Saddiction brings back the riffs, not without reminding the harshest ambiences of Banlieue Triste". Other singles followed: "In Disguise", "Healed?", and "The Worst is Yet to Come".

The synthetic peptide keeps the receptor-binding region of GHRH but carries substitutions that resist enzymatic cleavage. In the DAC version, an added group also anchors the molecule to albumin, extending its presence in the bloodstream.
The maleimide group forms a covalent link with albumin, an abundant blood protein. This attachment slows clearance, so a single administration persists much longer than the unmodified peptide. The feature is the main reason the two variants are handled differently in study design.
It is not an approved therapeutic product in major regulatory jurisdictions. It appears in research chemical catalogs and scientific literature rather than pharmacy shelves. Clinical development was limited and did not reach approval.
The version carrying the affinity complex bears a maleimide group that binds serum albumin, which extends its circulation time to several days. The version without it lacks this group and clears within roughly half an hour. The two are chemically related but behave very differently once in the body.
